Sturgeon Lake First Nation Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits Claim (Cows & Ploughs)

Date: October 3rd, 2024

Sturgeon Lake First Nation Chief and Council are pleased to announce that, on September 28th, 2024, the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations signed the Sturgeon Lake First Nation Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits Settlement Agreement (the “Settlement Agreement”).

According to the terms of the Settlement Agreement, the funds will be paid to SLFN within 45 days (by November 12th). Once SLFN receives the settlement funds, a payment date will be set to disburse Per Capita Distributions (PCDs) to members.

PCD Eligibility:

You are eligible for a PCD payment if:

  • You were on the SLFN Membership List as of the Ratification Vote (July 26, 2024).
  • You were alive on July 26, 2024.

Members alive on July 26, 2024, who passed away afterward, are also entitled to a PCD payment. These payments can be claimed by their estate, and the estate will need to complete the necessary application form.

Payment Method:

Payments will be made by direct deposit only. Members must submit their direct deposit form to agbenefitsbankinginfo@slfn.ca. Please ensure that the information on your form is accurate, as mistakes may delay your payment.

For assistance or questions, please contact Teiya Ermine or Daisy Felix at the SLFN Band Office at (306) 764-1872.

Additionally, BMO representatives will visit SLFN on October 9, 2024, at the Community Hall to assist members with setting up bank accounts.

Minors’ Payments:

In accordance with the Settlement Trust Agreement, PCD payments for minors (members under 18 years of age as of July 26, 2024) will be placed into a Minors Trust Account. These funds will remain in trust until the minor reaches 18 years of age.

The trust account will accrue 3% interest annually until the minor can access the funds. BMO Trust Company will manage the trust.
