Amisk Area Closed for June as Safety Work Continues

Amisk Area Closed for June as Safety Work Continues

Issued: May 28, 2026

Sturgeon Lake First Nation is advising all members that the Amisk area will remain closed throughout the month of June 2026. The closure includes access to both the cabin area and the road leading to the lake.

Leadership had previously explored reopening the area and restoring access to the cabins and lake. However, contractors continue to work on site, relocating equipment and supplies that remain throughout the grounds. Ongoing cleanup and restoration activities require clear and unobstructed access to ensure the work can be completed safely and efficiently.

The safety of community members remains the top priority. There are ongoing concerns regarding children accessing the area, as equipment, materials, and active work zones continue to be present throughout the site. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure children are supervised at all times and to avoid the area entirely while the closure remains in effect.

The closure will remain in place until the site has been fully cleared and deemed safe for public use. Leadership’s goal is to ensure that when the Amisk area reopens, it is safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all members, including children and Elders who frequently use the area.

Leadership is expected to receive an update in mid-June regarding the progress of the cleanup and overall site safety. Additional information will be shared with members as updates become available.

Sturgeon Lake First Nation recognizes that the Amisk area holds significant importance for many community members and appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation shown during this temporary closure.
